Meet L. K. Skala

Hi! I'm L. K. Skala, writer, dreamer, and lifelong lover of books and stories.
I grew up as the kid who always had her nose in a book — usually under the covers with a flashlight long after bedtime (my Mom would get so mad!) Stories were my safe place, my adventure, my way of shutting out or trying to make sense of a world that sometimes felt too big and often confusing.

When I was five, my family did just what Mia's did: bought a campground and moved to the country. While I don't remember much about leaving behind friends at that age (I was only in Kindergarten) this was the beginning of one of the best chapters of my life.

That little girl is the reason Mia exists. I wrote Mia & the Move because I know how big and scary change can feel — and because I believe every child deserves a story that says: you are not alone, and something wonderful might be just around the corner.

When I'm not writing, I'm probably reading, playing with my grandkids, or watching sports with my husband. I live with my family in the Midwest, where the winters are long and the library is always warm!

Remember - there are never too many books, only not enough bookshelves. :-)
